LEADERSHIP DICKINSON
MANUFACTURING DAY
THE DAY IN REVIEW
BY OUR LEADERSHIP MEMBER
Rachel Rackov
WEDNESDAY, JANUARY 16TH
We started off our morning at Baker Boy. Seth and Hannah led two tour groups around the entire facility. We saw and smelled the donuts and croissants being made! After our tour, Guy gave us a presentation of the history of Baker Boy. We were also treated to Magic Ring donuts.
After Baker Boy, we drove to Steffes where we received a tour from Brandon Ekre. We got to go inside a skid as well as tour their facility. We saw robotic machinery welding pipes and staircases. As well as, Bobcat machinery parts being painted.
Next, we went to KMM where we received a presentation from Bryan. We learned that KMM creates wire bundles for a variety of airplanes across the country. They have cut enough wire to go around the earth four times! Their jobs are very detail oriented and they must be precise to please their customers. It was very interesting to see the work at KMM and what it entails.
Finally, we ended up at TMI. Jason Jacobs gave us a tour of the facility. We learned about how many different combinations there can be in the cabinetry business. We got to see how many different aspects there are to completing a job, from laminating to assembly. Many people have to work together to reach a finished product. After our tour, Doug Jilek gave a presentation on what interviewers look for in potential employees.
All locations we visited had one thing in common; they take raw materials and make them into a product for consumers. Each manufacturer provides goods to locations not only in North Dakota, but to states across the nations. It was amazing to hear how the manufacturers in our community are so encouraging and supportive of one another.
